With the worldwide spread of swine influenza or novel influenza A (H1N1) virus, poeple in countries with exposure to this virus should strictly follow these guidelines to protect themselves.
-Always wash your hands with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand cleaner
-Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
-Avoid going out to a crowded place like theatres, concerts.
-People who are sick with an influenza-like illness (ILI) (fever plus at least cough or sore throat and possibly other symptoms like runny nose, body aches, headaches, chills, fatigue, vomiting and diarrhea) should stay home and minimize contact with others, avoiding travelling, for 7 days after their symptoms begin or until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours, whichever is longer.
-Avoid close contact ( within about 6 feet) with persons with swine flu.
The swine flu or H1N1 virus is a new virus so there is no vaccine to prevent it effectively yet.
It is estimated that the swine flu vaccine won’t be ready until sometime around September to November 2009.
So in the meantime ,all we can do is follow the above guidelines.
